Pitchup.com, a booking website specialising in campsites, glamping sites and caravan parks have seen listings in Scotland almost double over the past year. Starting at 66 sites on the booking platform, 2019 saw that number grow to 128, 111 of which were live for last summer.
The new additions to the booking platform span across the entirety of Scotland with sites in places such as Loch Ness and at Scotland’s largest dam in Stirling. Accommodation from these new additions include accommodation types such as luxury camping pods, safari tents and shepherds’ huts.
Pitchup.com made predictions last year that Scotland would see a rise in domestic tourism and the results certainly seem to correlate with a massive 43% increase in bookings made by Scots. In addition to this, bookings in the region have also significantly increased by 46%.
Scotland has also seen a record-breaking number of international visitors, most notably from Germany, France, the Netherlands and the UK. Global bookings for the country have risen to a staggering £100 million. Which is up form £75 million at around this time last year.
The average booking spend comes out to around £500 overall with £236 being spent off-site.
This boost in bookings sees Scotland currently outperforming the rest of the market. The new sites being set up are making the most of the country’s natural beauty and creating some of the most stunning sites on the market, which explains why the region is becoming more and more popular.
