Popular bookings website coolcamping.com hit a new all-time high on Sunday, with the largest single day of online bookings since the website launched the function back in 2015.

Since the announcement of the UK government’s Covid-19 recovery strategy – followed by more recent announcements in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland – coolcamping.com has reported a consistent increase in bookings. So far this month, booking figures are more than double those reported for the same period last year.

“We’ve seen a huge increase in demand for glamping over the past few weeks,” James Warner Smith from Cool Camping said. “As more restrictions are relaxed, consumer confidence is growing and we expect this to continue as non-essential retails shops begin to open in England and more people venture out. At the same time, this is paired with continued doubt around overseas travel and an increase in people wanting to holiday in an outdoor environment, so glamping seems ideally placed to capture the audience this summer”.

The growth in booking figures is expected to continue well into July, usually the peak time for online bookings, with Cool Camping reporting the potential for a further spike when specific opening dates are announced in Wales – the only devolved government to have not yet released a potential date.

“It’s fantastic to see so many people are still planning on taking glamping holidays this summer,” Warner Smith said, “but, while booking numbers are extremely high, it’s clear that consumers are also hungry for information. Our Coronavirus Travel Advice page remains by far the most-read page on our website, showing that people are looking for clarity before they book a break.”

In the last month Cool Camping have published a series of dedicated collections for glampers focused around social distancing measures and coronavirus concerns. These include glamping sites with contactless check in, en-suite glamping and glamping sites with private bathrooms, as well as glamping sites with general social distancing measures in place. Cool Camping also launched a popular Coronavirus Booking Guarantee, bringing over 150 independent glamping and camping sites together to offer a consistent policy to consumers, a move widely praised across the national press.
