Modern Campground and Cairn Consulting Group have released their latest joint report, “Blended Travel: Embracing Short-Term Stays,” highlighting the growing trend of travelers mixing different lodging styles within a single trip.

The study reveals that blended travel – combining various accommodation types – has become the norm among outdoor hospitality guests.

According to the February 2025 MC Camper Compass study, 70% of travelers now incorporate multiple lodging options, such as campgrounds, RV parks, glamping resorts, hotels, and short-term rentals, into their itineraries.

This shift signals a crucial opportunity for campgrounds, RV parks, and glamping destinations to establish a stronger presence during travelers’ planning stages.

“This movement toward blended travel marks a fundamental shift in traveler preferences, reshaping expectations and presenting new opportunities for outdoor hospitality providers,” said Scott Bahr, president of Cairn Consulting Group.

“Our research shows that travelers today aren’t limiting themselves to a single type of accommodation or travel experience. Instead, they are seeking diverse, seamless experiences and frequently extending their stays thanks to remote work flexibility. It’s essential for outdoor hospitality businesses to recognize this shift and position themselves as integral parts of these dynamic travel experiences.”

The report identifies remote work as a key factor driving this trend, enabling travelers to turn short weekend trips into week-long stays. As a result, many are choosing accommodations that support a work-life balance, boosting mid-week occupancy rates at campgrounds and RV parks.

To capitalize on this, operators should prioritize high-speed internet access and upgraded amenities to attract these modern travelers.

Brian Searl, founder and CEO of Modern Campground, emphasized the opportunities these insights present for the industry. “Travelers today aren’t looking for one-dimensional trips. They’re embracing a blend of accommodations and activities tailored to their varied needs,” said Searl.

“This presents a significant opportunity for campgrounds, RV parks, and glamping resorts that adapt by enhancing their amenities, comfort, and connectivity. Those that do will distinguish themselves as key components of travelers’ blended experiences.”

The report also highlights the increasing importance of cross-industry collaborations, such as partnerships between hotels and outdoor lodging providers. These alliances can attract a broader customer base, utilizing loyalty programs and integrated booking systems to enhance the guest experience.

As blended travel continues to gain traction, such partnerships are poised to shape the future of the travel industry.

Offering in-depth insights, market analysis, and actionable strategies, the full report serves as a vital resource for campgrounds, RV parks, and glamping resorts looking to attract blended travelers, maximize occupancy, and enhance guest satisfaction.
