High Sand Creek is a uniquely situated campsite on the edge of the quaint village of Stiffkey in Norfolk’s Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is a family and dog friendly campsite surrounded by woodlands, mud creeks and beaches. High Sand Creek overlooks the East Anglian coastal saltmarshes which are rich with wildlife, flora, and fauna, all under the famous big skies of Norfolk.
The site needed to replace an ageing and inefficient traditional stored water heating system that had become tired and expensive in terms of fuel use and maintenance.
Local firm of plumbing & heating engineers Bruce Towers and Sons were brought in to upgrade and replace the old system. Bruce Towers & Sons are a family run plumbing and heating business based in Norfolk, established for almost 35 years.
“All our engineers are fully trained to the highest standard and qualified in the areas they work in, so customers are assured that our work is to the highest quality standard. We cover all types of plumbing and heating work including commercial and domestic projects from design to install and maintenance, so if it’s a tower block to a tap waste we can cover it,” says Luke Towers at the firm.
The new hot water system at High Sand Creek had to cater for 13 push button showers, 13 wash hand basins & seven kitchen sinks. This included the Shower Block, Disabled Shower/Washroom, Washing up area and exterior shower.
The solution was 4 x 1600 units from the Rinnai N Series. They were cascaded with a common header flue and the system also featured scale protection.
The new system from Rinnai has resulted in an energy reduction and gas saving due to higher efficiencies and because large amounts of stored hot water are not consuming vast amounts of expensive energy. With the Rinnai system it is simply a ‘Pay as You Go’.
As one site owner stated, “In terms of gas usage running costs compared to the old stored system, our fuel bills have virtually been halved since the Rinnai system went live, which is absolutely tremendous.”

There are four models are: the N1600i giving 954 litres per hour; the N1600e (external) also giving 954 litres per hour (at 50 degrees); the N1300i giving 775 litres per hour and the N1300e also giving 775 litres per hours of temperature controlled at 50 degrees. The two 1600s have load profiles of XXL and are water efficiency class A rated, while the 1300s are load profile XL and are also water efficiency class A rated.
