Amidst the sandstone canyons lies a truly unique glamping experience—twenty-two Retro Airstream trailers in an untouched desert oasis, providing the ultimate immersive experience.

Caravan is the latest experience from Habitas, the hotel group famed for its experience-led, eco-conscious offerings. It exists at the crossroads of an ancient spice and incense route, home to the ancient Nabataeans, where caravans from across the world came together to trade their exotic possessions.

Inspired by the ancient Bedouins who travelled in this manner, these stylish caravans offer breath-taking views of the sandstone canyons and the diverse rock formations and gorges that make this destination a veritable outdoor museum. Al’Ula lies beneath one of the world’s richest archaeological regions on earth—a site where the ancient Nabataean civilisations once thrived, and a stay in these caravans replicates the experience as best possible.

The owners, Habitas, are legends in design and hospitality circles for straddling the worlds of shabby chic-meets-hippy, and have managed to cleverly combine all the mod-cons of suite life without compromising on a truly authentic experience.

Their gathering areas take inspiration from the ancient Bedouins. The communal areas are anchored by a central gathering tent, with low cushions, where guests can connect and share meals and stories.

The focus is on communal gathering spaces aimed at adventurous tourists who yearn to play and participate in activities rather than retreat in privacy.

“We are excited to expand our brand in a new direction and to offer a new type of experience, we invite people to come on an adventure, to play in raw nature,” said co-founder and chief executive of Habitas, Oliver Ripley.

“We’ve chosen AlUla — one of the oldest cities in the Arabian Peninsula — as our first outpost for this new, immersive concept for its history, culture and natural heritage. We hope that our Caravan concept will provide travellers with a unique way to discover new and untapped destinations around the world, in nature and activating unique and experiential accommodation.”
