Discover some of the leading suppliers and the products you need to get your glamping business up and running.
We conduct interviews with some of the top suppliers for International Glamping Business magazine, as well as product editorials. Find all the information you need on different accommodation structures and accessories.
Accommodation
It’s the name of the game.
Giving your site that “wow” factor is no mean feat. With more sites operating than ever before [source: Pitchup, Hipcamp, Crown & Canopy], finding a way to stand out and grab those bookings can be difficult – but not impossible.
Think back to when you last searched for a getaway; did you look at the cushion covers, the bed frame, or the luxurious hand soap? We’re willing to bet that you were more interested in the accommodation. Of course, those are all important things to improve the guest experience, but you need to have the guests.
Luckily, with the expansion of the glamping industry comes the growth of many popular manufacturers, who are offering more diversity in their range than ever. As well as newer companies who are establishing themselves with unique, completely bespoke (and usually environmentally-friendly) builds.
It’s also important to really think about your goals. Is it quick turnaround times within the 60-day rule*? Or are you looking to provide a year-round novelty experience? We interviewed some of the top industry suppliers to help you find the right structure.
*Previously 28 days, the new ’60-Day Rule’ allows a English landowner to use land for tented camping without having to get formal planning permission for 60 days in a calendar year.
Permanent structures usually require official planning permission. Always check your local authority’s regulations.
The Guest Experience
This is the fun part.
The guest experience encapsulates the entire process, from the moment they click to book, to the minute they leave.
This is where the extras come in to play. You have the location and the structure, so now it’s time to think about the add-ons that will garner repeat bookings. Just 28% of glamping sites in the UK offer a hot tub – with guests willing to pay an average of £24 more for the luxury [source: The Essential Glamping Business Manual].
Will you include a small fee for firewood in the booking price, so guests can reminisce and cook their own meals around the fire pit? Or offer a champagne and rose petals hamper for surprise proposals and honeymooners?
Keeping guests happy isn’t as tumultuous as you may have been lead to believe. If someone complains about an uncomfortable bed, sleep in it for a night yourself. If you’re losing bookings at the check-out page, have a look at other sites’ rates just in case you’re pricing too high.
Most importantly, finding the right booking system – or external hosting platform – is key. Regularly test the process yourself at least once per month; if the price per night isn’t readily apparent, or the availability calendar doesn’t update, maybe consider a different platform, as you may be losing out on bookings.
